Avigliana race, 26.05.2002
On the Large lake of the Natural Park of the Avigliana Lakes (Turin, Italy)
the first Italian Solar Boat Race took place within the Europan Park Festival.
The organisation of the race was arranged by the Natural Park of the Avigliana
Lakes management supported by the Avigliana Municipality and some local sponsors.
8 boats took part to the race: three German boats and 5 Italian boats.
The race lasted all day long and was divided into two phases: the first one
was a circual 30 kw course and the second one was a slalom velocity race.
Another "unofficial" race took then place between the solar boats and the
athletes of a local rowing club.
The Race Committee awarded a prize to the "Nessuno" boat of Mr B. Franchi
(Italy) and to the "Solari" boat of Mr T. Graff (Germany) according to the
scores they collected during the above both races. Another special prize
was then given to Mr F. Wittenzellner, the younger landlubber of the race:
13 years old.
